NOTE: These instructions are for platform versions Pre-2020 only. For our latest platform, use this guide.
Your website can have Navigation menus in the top, bottom and side columns.
Your primary navigation links should be placed in your top menu. Links should be limited to no more than six to prevent crowding.
How to add top menu links
- In your Control Panel, click Navigation.
- Then Top Navigation and Top Menu.
- Use the Static Menu Item to add new links.
- Enter the Link Title that will show in the menu bar.
- Enter the Internal or External page link.
- Links to an external website should be set to Open in new window.
How to find the internal link URL
- To create an internal link, go to the page you want to link to.
- From the address bar, copy only the portion of the URL after the .com
- For example, if the page URL is: subhub.com/subscribe - then internal link is: /subscribe
- Enter this in the LINK URL field of the Static Menu Item
To add a Navigation block, you need to enable the Left or Right Side Column.
How to enable side navigation columns
- Click Settings.
- Then Display Options tab.
- Under Side Navigation, select Yes to display a Left/ Right Navigation.
Types of side navigation blocks you can add
Login Blocks - The entry point for your subscribers to access the members-only content.
Newsletter Blocks - Gathers names and email addresses from visitors who are interested in receiving further communication from you.
Search Blocks - Add a site search function.
Events Blocks - Add an Events calendar.
HTML Blocks - Add advertising, testimonials, images, links and more.
Profile Blocks - Display member profiles.
MailChimp - Create a newsletter sign up block for your integrated MailChimp account.
Category - Create a block of content which will only appear on the main page of your chosen category.
Decide who the menu block is viewable by
Administrator - Only be seen by website admins.
Everyone - Anyone who visits your site.
Members Only - Only displays to logged-in members.
Non-Members Only - Will not be visible once a member has logged in.
How to create a menu block
To enable the display categories, articles and static links in the left or right hand column you need to create a Menu Block.
- Click on Navigation.
- Select the left or right column.
- Choose Menu Block from the drop down menu
- Click Add.
- Decide access.
- Add a Menu Title.
- Assign Categories/Articles Assigned to this Menu Block
- Click save.
NOTE: Assign categories and articles to menu blocks from within the category edit mode or article edit mode.
Add a newsletter block
The Newsletter Block gathers names and email addresses of visitors who are interested in receiving further information and will email them to the address you list.
For a more advanced email campaigner, you can take advantage of our integration with MailChimp.
Add a Search box
- Select Navigation.
- Select the left or right column.
- Select Search Block.
- Decide Access
- Click Save.
To add a Search link in top menu bar, use the static link option in Top Navigation with the Link URL: /search.
Add an HTML block
An HTML Block can be used for inserting Google AdSense, Advertising, testimonials, images, links and more.
- Click Navigation.
- Select left or right hand column.
- Select HTML Block and Click Add.
- Click Edit.
- Decide Access.
- Give the block a title or not.
- Hide On Secure Pages: If you are pasting in any HTML code that has been supplied to you by a third party, we would recommend that you set this field to 'Yes' so that it hides the code on your payment pages. This will prevent any insecure messages appearing when a visitor moves to a payment page.
- In the body, add any advertising, images, links, or HTML code.
- Click Save.
Add an events block
The Events Block inserts a small calendar. Important dates with a description can be highlighted.
- Click Navigation.
- Choose the left or right column.
- Select Events Block and click Add.
- Decide Access.
- Give the block a title or not.
- Click Save.
NOTE: To add events to the calendar, go to Events in the control panel.
Add a profile block
Creating a Profile Block Create a sense of community to our website by adding a member Profile Block to your site. Your members can then add an image and personal details about themselves.
- Click Navigation.
- Choose the left or right column.
- Select Profile Block and click Add.
- Decide Access.
- Give the block a title or not.
- Click Save.
Add a MailChimp Block
After setting up your MailChimp integration, add a sign up block.
- Click Navigation.
- Choose the left or right column.
- Select MailChimp Block and click Add.
- Decide Access.
- Assign a MailChimp list - first create the list in MailChimp.
- Enter a title or not.
- Click save.
Add a category block
Create a block of links on a specific category page.
- Click Navigation.
- Choose the left or right column.
- Select the Category Block.
- Decide Access.
- Enter a title or not.
- Select which Category Page the block should display on.
- Hide on secure pages - only applicable if you are using 3rd party code which might cause issues with secure pages.
- In the Body section, enter text, images or embed videos.
- Click Save.
Editing, deleting and reordering blocks.
To edit, delete or reorder any of the default navigation blocks, or ones you have created yourself, return to the 'Navigation' section.
To edit any of the blocks click on the edit button.
Tick blocks to delete.
