Menu Blocks are the blocks that hold your categories, articles and static links and are typically used in the left hand column.
The first stage of building your site is to create your navigation, to do this you need to understand what tools are available to you.
Your site navigation is made up from various building blocks, these include:
Login Blocks - is the entry point for your subscribers to access the members only parts of the site. They are required to enter their email address and password.
Newsletter Blocks - gathers names and email addresses from visitors who are interested in receiving further communication from you. Search Blocks - allows you to add a general site search that indexes your site content.
Events Blocks - will add a calendar to either the left or right hand column to which you can add important dates.
HTML Blocks - can be used for so many things, including advertising, testimonials, images, links and much more.
Profile Blocks - will display any member profiles that have been created. All of these blocks can be added to the right or left hand column.
Creating a Menu Block
To enable you to display categories, articles and static links in the left or right hand column you need to create one or more Menu Block(s).
Click on 'Navigation' in the left hand navigation bar.
Decide whether your menu block appears in the left or right column.
Choose 'Menu Block' from the drop down menu
Click 'Add' to be taken your menu block editor.
Viewable By: Decide who the menu block is viewable by, you can choose from:
Administrator - can only be seen by yourself and other website admins.
Everyone - means it is displayed to anyone who visits your site.
Members Only - the menu block and it's content will only appear to a logged in member.
Non-Members Only - means the menu block and categories will not be visible once a member has logged in.
Menu Title: In the title field, enter the exact text you want to appear in the navigation. If for any reason you do not want to display the title on the menu block, you can set the 'Hide Title' drop down to 'Yes'.
Categories/Articles Assigned to this Menu Block: Underneath the title field, you will see that you have not yet assigned any categories or articles to the menu block.
Click save and you will be notified that your changes have been saved.
The published menu block will appear in the left or right hand column.
NOTE: Please be aware that you assign categories and articles to menu blocks from within the category edit mode or article edit mode.
Creating 'Static' Links in the Menu Block
There is a section at the end of each menu block that allows you to create links to other pages on your site or external sites.
This can be used to link to pages such as:
Link Title Link URL
Contact Form: /contact
To add a static link to a menu block please follow the steps below:
Enter the title that you wish to appear in the navigation menu.
Enter the link URL that you wish your visitors to get taken to when they click on the title.
If it is a link to an external website, you should check the 'Open in new window' box.
Click the 'Add static link' button Click the 'Save' button
NOTE: Once you have added the static link, you MUST click the 'save' button in the menu block for your links to get added to the menu block.
Create a New Login Block
To enable your subscribers to access the members only content on your site, you need to provide them with a Login Block. There is already a Login Block on your site, which is part of the default content.
To create new Login Block:
Access the Navigation area through the control panel.
Assign your Login Block to the left or right column.
Select 'Login Block' from the drop down menu.
Viewable By: Set your Login Block to be viewable by everyone.
NOTE: Once a member or administrator of your website has logged in the login box will disappear until they logout again.
Login Block Title: Give your Login Block a title – for example you could call it 'Login'.
Login Block Message: You can also add additional text into the Login Block.
For example, you could add: 'To access the premium content, enter your login details here.'
Click Save and you will be notified that your changes have been saved.
Create a Newsletter Block
A Newsletter Block gathers names and email addresses from visitors on your site who are interested in receiving further information about your site content.
For a more advanced email campaigner, you can take advantage of our integration with MailChimp.
NOTE: The Newsletter Block will email their details to an email address of your choice.
To add a Newsletter Block
Decide whether to display the newsletter block in the left or right column.
From the drop down menu select Newsletter Block and Click Add
Viewable By: As you will want all visitors to be able to receive further information on your site content, you should set this to be viewable by everyone.
Newsletter Block Title: You need to give the Newsletter Block a title, for example 'Free Newsletter'.
Newsletter Block Message: You also have the ability to enter further information into the Newsletter Block.
Send to Email Address: In the 'Email address' field, enter your email address. When a visitor enters their details into the Newsletter Block, those details will get sent to you at this email address.
You will be notified that your changes have been saved.
Creating a Search Block
By adding a Search Block to your site, visitors will be able to search through all published content.
To add a new Search Block: Go to the Navigation area. Decide whether to place it in the left or right hand column.
Select 'Search Block' from the drop down menu. Click Add.
Viewable By: Set the Search Block to be viewable by everyone.
Search Block Title Enter the title such as 'Search the Site' Click Save and you will be notified that your changes have been saved.
An HTML Block can be used for many reasons, such as inserting Google AdSense, Advertising, testimonials, images, links and much more.
Creating an HTML Block
Go to Navigation.
Assign an HTML Block to either the left or right hand column.
From the drop down menu, select 'HTML Block'.
Viewable By Decide who the HTML Block is viewable by.
HTML Block Title: Give the block a title, which can be useful for reference.
Hide Title: In most cases, you will want to set the to 'Yes' so the title does not show.
Hide On Secure Pages: If you are pasting in any HTML code that has been supplied to you by a third party, we would recommend that you set this field to 'Yes' so that it hides the code on your payment pages. This will prevent any insecure messages appearing when a visitor moves to a payment page.
Body: In the body field, we will add any advertising, images, links, or HTML code.
Click Save and you will be notified that your changes have been made.
The Events Block, inserts a small calendar in either the right or left hand column. Important dates can be added along with a description teaser.
To add your Events Block:
Go to 'Navigation'.
Choose to add it to the left or right column.
From the drop down menu, select 'Events Block'. Click 'Add'.
Viewable B: You can set the calendar to be viewable by either 'everyone' or 'members only'.
Events Block: Title Give the Events Block a title, such as 'What's On'.
Click Save and you will be notified that your block has been saved.
To view the Events Block, return to the homepage.
NOTE: To add events to the calendar, go to 'Events' in the control panel.
Creating a Profile Block Create a sense of community to our website by adding a member Profile Block to your site. Your members can then add an image and personal details about themselves.
To add your Profile Block:
Go to 'Navigation'. Choose to add the block to the left or right column.
From the drop down menu, select 'Profile Block'.
Viewable by: Decide who you want the block to be viewable by. If you set it to 'Everyone', non members will also be able to view the profiles but will have to subscribe to view the members contact details.
Profile Block Title: Enter a title to be displayed above the actual profiles.
Hide Title: If you wish, you can hide the title, you will still be able to see the title in the navigation section.
Click 'Save'. You will be notified that your block has been saved, it will now appear in the navigation of your site.
Editing, deleting and reordering blocks.
To edit, delete or reorder any of the default navigation blocks, or ones you have created yourself, return to the 'Navigation' section in the control panel or click on 'Navigation' in the left hand column.
All your existing blocks will be listed. By default, the blocks will be assigned to the left hand column.
To view the blocks in the right hand column, click on the 'Right Column' button.
Editing your navigation blocks
To edit any of the blocks click on the button next to the relevant navigation block title.
Make your changes and click save.
You will be notified that your block has been saved and you should now see the block has been updated.
