This guide will help you tick off a number of tasks that should be completed before you launch your site. Once you have upgraded your SubHub site you will be ready to start work through our recommended steps to launch your new site.
Start using your own domain name (‘Go live’)
If you have not yet purchased your own domain name, this is a good time to do it! Using your own domain name with your SubHub site is simple. Contact our support team here to begin the process and wait for an email instruction with instructions on how to update your DNS settings.
Please do not worry if this is new to you, we are here to help with this if needed, or contact your domain registrar and ask them to follow our settings which will be sent via email.
Anyone switching their site over to SubHub may wish to arrange this update with the SubHub support team to reduce any impact to your site’s accessibility.
Now that you can access your SubHub site using your own domain name, it is really important to check that your links are working. We find many users set up their links incorrectly, and this is an easy problem to fix.
To avoid any issues with links always use the final part of the URL after the .com or .co.uk.
We have a number of guides to help you manage links using SubHub - Website Links Support Guides.
Testing and Feedback
It would be best to test payments after you have set up your own domain name with your SubHub site. The reason for this is due to the messaging you will have set up, in the Subscription Confirmation email will direct users to log in, so if you test this with your own domain name, you can follow the user journey and ensure you are satisfied with the sign up process.
For the purpose of testing, you should set up a plan for a minimal amount, for example $1, and assign a promo code to this test plan so it won’t be visible to everyone, just those with the code.
We would recommend either asking a team member, family or friend to help with this, so you can pay using a different payment profile than your own. You can also get some great feedback from new users who will be seeing the website for the first time with fresh eyes, and may be able to spot any errors.
Automated emails are sent out to your members when they subscribe to your site. So check you have updated these with your own content, and check how they look once you have made your 1st test payment.
Don’t forget to view your across a few different devices, not just the desktop view. The SubHub platform is mobile ready, but the content you upload might need to be slightly modified to look great across all screens.
Check your contact page ( /contact) is set up correctly, if you send a test contact email, ensure you have updated the contact email address.
Make your site searchable
There are a number of ways that you can make your site more searchable. When creating your content, always work with your SEO guidelines and keep up to date with trends and best practices.
The internet is packed with tools and guides to help you, but we are a big fan of Moz.com who have put together an excellent Beginners Guide to SEO. Well worth taking the time to read.
Via your SubHub Control Panel Site Settings, head to the MetaData tab to review these sections.
Site Title - By default, this will always show as ‘Trial Site’ so change this to your site title, which will update the tab titles and it will inform search engines which site name to use for your search listings.
Site Description - Enter a short description in this section, no more than 320 characters, which will best describe your product or service. It is important to also include your best performing keywords in this brief summary.
Site Keywords - Ideally you will have researched and analysed the most relevant and best performing keywords for your site. Populate this section with as many keywords as needed.
Sitemap - If you would like to modify your sitemap to only index specific pages, you can upload your new file here.
Upload Google Verification File - If you are using any Google Domain Tools they will need you to verify you own the website and domain. Upload the file they require you to attach to your site here.
Allow Search Engines to scan your site - Now you are ready to launch the site, you need to allow your site to be indexed to appear in search results.
The SubHub platform has an extra layer of protection against spam bots. You will need to add Google reCaptcha to your site to complete this set up - after you have set up your own domain name. Here is our guide to help you with this.
Payment Processors - Final Checks
PayPal and Stripe will enable your SubHub site to be sent post transactional messages should any payments fail or be cancelled. You will need to ensure these API settings are set up correctly, not just for the initial transaction.
