The search filter allows users to search for content that meets specific criteria. The filter is particularly useful for searches that include multiple variables.
Step 1: Set up the search criteria terms
The criteria terms are set up using Categories. The parent category will be the criteria and the sub-categories its menu choices. Add three criteria terms.
- In the blue sidebar of the control panel, click Create Content then Categories.
- Click the Add New Category button.
- Set who will have access to the category.
- Enter a Title. Use the same term that will be used as the filter label.
- Save and Publish Now.
Next add the menu choices for each criteria
The menu choices will be are set up as sub-categories and in the filter will display in a drop down menu for their assigned criteria or parent category.
- Click the Add New Category button.
- Set who will have access to the category.
- Name the category.
- From the drop down menu, select the Parent Category that it will be displayed under.
- Click Save and Publish Now.
Step 2: Add criteria labels to the filter
Now that the criteria and choices are established, add the labels to the filter.
- In the blue sidebar of the control panel, click Language Settings.
- Under the heading Search Filter, you can rename the existing default criteria labels with your own.
- Click Save.
- These labels will now display on your search filter as the criteria a user will select from.
Step 3: How to add the criteria choices to the filter
- In the blue sidebar, click Create Content then select Search Filter.
- Click the Setup Class Picker button in the top right.
- Next click each field, and from the drop down menu select the category that will be the criteria term for that field.
- Save.
- Click the Back button to review the member facing search filter. Click the arrows to confirm the correct menu choices are displayed for each criteria term.

How to assign content to the filter
For content to display as a result in a search, it must be assigned to a sub-category. The content must match all the terms selected in that search.
- Create content as an Article.
- In the article editor, in the right hand sidebar, click the arrow next to Category to unfurl the menu selections.
- Using the Additional Category field, select each sub-category for that piece of content. Click the + button.
- For the article to show as a search result, it must meet all the criteria that has been selected.
